Dr. Andrew Scott - Research
Overview
My current research interests are in computer science education, novice programming, responsive web applications, and mobile applications development.
The a main theme of my resrarch has been focused in the area of computer science education where my research output has focused on understanding and addressing the comprehension and confidence issues novice programmers face when learning programming, ways to teach the subject better, and the help seeking behavor of undergraduate students..
More recently my interests have turned towards the development of mobile and web based application development with a perticular focus in undergraduate research. I am also in the process of developing an a new webservice for programming visually aimed at novice programmers. I am currently studying the help seeking behavor of undergraduate CS students as well as the the intergration of micro services into the learning repetior of an undergraduate software development course.Previously I have worked as a research fellow and senior developer for a specialist centre (the brainchild of Professor Khalid Al-Begain) which assists small to medium sized businesses in mobile applications development.
R & D Projects
Selected projects that I have developed either as sole author, co-creator or in colatoration with external entities and students. Several projects I have also worked on can not appear in this list due to non disclosure agrements.
2025 WheeBFit - Project Supervisor
WheeBFit is a full-stack web application which allows students to learn about healthy nutrition, and fitness in a game-like manner. WheeBFit also allows teachers to monitor their students to keep track of their progress. WheeBFit features a responsive and easy to use smartphone first website for its student users, as well a large screen optimized features for the teacher. The project was supervised by Dr. Andrew Scott, and developed by undergraduate students William Barker, Richard Prange, and Joshua Vancleave for Dr. Tom Waterson from the school of teaching and learning.
